Overview

Bronto lets you control how long your log data is stored — both as a global default across your organisation and as custom overrides per dataset.
Data marked for deletion will enter a grace period and remains queryable before expiration.

Organisation Policy

The Organisation Policy sets the default retention period applied to all datasets that don’t have a custom override. Your plan determines the maximum retention available. To update the default:
  1. Go to Settings → Plan → Retention.
  2. Under Organization Policy, select a retention period from the Default Retention dropdown.
  3. Click Save Default.
Available retention periods are 30 days, 90 days, 180 days, and 365 days, up to your plan maximum.

Custom Retention Overrides

You can override the default retention for individual datasets — useful when certain data needs to be kept longer or can be discarded sooner. To apply a custom override:
  1. Under Filter Datasets, search for the dataset you want to configure.
  2. Select it — it will appear as a Dataset Rule tag.
  3. Choose a retention period from the Set retention… dropdown.
  4. Click Save.
The dataset will move from Using Default Retention into the Custom Retention Overrides list, showing its specific policy. To remove a custom override and revert a dataset to the organisation default, clear the rule from the Custom Retention Overrides list.

Viewing Retention by Dataset

The right panel shows all datasets grouped by their retention status:
  • Custom Retention Overrides — datasets with a specific retention rule applied, and the count of datasets affected.
  • Using Default Retention — all remaining datasets inheriting the organisation default. Expand any namespace to see the individual datasets within it.
