# bronto ask

> Turn a question into a search query using an LLM

Turns a natural-language question into a bronto search, using an OpenAI-compatible
chat-completions endpoint you configure (config: ask\_url, ask\_model; API key in
BRONTO\_ASK\_API\_KEY). bronto prints the generated command and the model's reasoning
before it runs anything. In a terminal it asks for confirmation; elsewhere nothing
runs without --yes. The endpoint receives the question and dataset and field names
only, never event data or your Bronto API key.

```sh theme={"dark"}
bronto ask <question> [flags]
```

#### Flags

| Flag | Short | Type | Default | Description |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| `--dataset` | `-d` | string | | dataset to search; overrides the model's choice and sends the model its field names |
| `--yes` | | bool | | run the generated query without asking |

Also accepts the [global flags](/cli/reference/commands/global-flags).

#### Examples

```sh theme={"dark"}
bronto ask "5xx spikes in checkout since last night"
bronto ask "errors by host this morning" --yes
bronto config set ask_url https://api.openai.com/v1/chat/completions
```
